Chris works as a Paramedic and Fire Engineer for a large urban municipal fire department located in the central region of Arizona. He has taught in the Maricopa Community College system since 1988 and holds many instructor and coordinator credentials. Chris has a wide range of experience in private, public, and corporate industrial medical and safety program implementation.

Chris continues to serve on many state committees as an advocate for EMS delivery and educational improvements. Chris has been an EMT-Basic and EMT-Paramedic Program Coordinator for many years and has a genuine ability to educate and mentor medical professionals, he is known for his success in EMT-Basic instruction.

Sean P. Newton, BS, NREMT-P

Sean works as a Paramedic and Fire Captain for a large urban municipal fire department located in central Arizona. He has worked as a Flight Paramedic and was the initial Program Director for the joint Mesa Fire Department / Mesa Community College Paramedic Training Program in 2004.

Sean has taught in the Maricopa Community College system since 1992. In 2004, his expertise was instrumental in expanding the scope of practice to allow Arizona Certified Paramedics to perform RSI. Sean is also a contributing author to many EMS related books including the Department of Health Services training materials for RSI. He is an advocate and educator of prehospital 12 lead ECG's and has taught well over 5,000 medical professionals 12 Lead ECG interpretaion and the importance of early ACS recognition and intervention.

Randy Budd, AAS, RRT, CEP

Since 1995 Randy has worked for a large urban municipal fire department and
currently serves as a Paramedic and Fire Captain. He is also experienced as a Flight Respiratory Therapist and Critical Care Respiratory Therapist.

Randy has served as the Program Director for the joint Mesa Fire Department / Mesa Community College Paramedic Training Programs in 2006, 2007 and 2008 and has taught in the Maricopa Community College system since 1990. He is also a contributing author to many medical related educational and reference books. Randy is known for his expansive knowledge base in critical care and his ability to educate all levels of medical professionals.

Dr. Gary Smith, M.D.

Administrative Medical Director

Dr. Gary Smith has been involved in medicine and public safety for well over 25 years. He began his career as a Firefighter and Paramedic then followed his lifelong dream to medical school. Dr. Smith owns a successful private practice in Mesa and Queen Creek, Arizona and is the Administrative Medical Director for the Apache Junction, Gilbert, and Mesa Fire Departments.

Dr. Smith has been actively involved in medical education since 1989, and enjoys being directly involved in the development of our curriculum and instruction of our students. He is known for his visionary, progressive outlook toward emergency service delivery and has dedicated thousands of hours toward the improvment of prehospital emergency medical services across the state of Arizona.
